Rapper Shaker discusses the mental situation he was in when he wrote his latest song, “Daben,” which means “When.” The rapper and record producer offers insights into what motivated or inspired him to create this outstanding record saying, he had on and off times he feels keeping to himself alone.
He also stated he was mentally unstable and drained, due to past events in his life leading up to that didn’t help him and he felt stagnant.
“I mean there’s times where I don’t feel like talking to anybody, I don’t feel like replying messages picking up phone calls because, I was mentally drained, I felt I was putting in too much work,and not getting the result I was expecting. Like you’re in a queue and it’s been forever, You haven’t even taken a step forward”.
The rapper also adds craziest lies he has to leave is, putting up different fronts to the public domain and spaces just make others know you’re alright.
“And the more crazy thing about this is, you been in a situation like that and having to put up a different front in the public space, It makes you crazier. These are some of things I have been through, and some of my colleagues have been through that I wanted to touch on the song.”
Shaker’s Daben is a song he created out of self-reflection, dealing about his troubles, desperation, anxiousness, and other situations in his life that really tested him and made him wonder about a lot of things, not just him but, also some of those close to him.
“I honestly wanted to be vulnerable on this song because, the shaker a lot of people know is lie Shaker and chilling shaker but that’s not it.”
“The song is not just confined to what I have been through but also is from my experiences with other people around me and what I have seen in my life. You know I have worked with a lot of industry people and obviously I have seen some of the struggles in the head of some of them. So I put all together and I just cooked a sad song.
Daben which was released back in April, according Shaker was a part of an EP he hold onto for while for release, but unsure of releasing because, he’s in a different space and mindset now, see things differently and wouldn’t want to release a ‘sad EP’ which it was.
“This song is part of an EP I’ve had for a while that I wanted to release that’s themed Daben, Is like a sad EP, VERY SAD EP but I don’t know if am going to release that again because, my mindset is different now .” he concluded.
