Mr Drew's Unauthorized Release Sparks Legal Debate, Now Resolved - Kuami Eugene Speaks

The music industry was recently abuzz with controversy surrounding the unauthorized release of Mr. Drew’s song ‘Case’. The issue arose when it was revealed that the song had been released without proper consent from Kuami Eugene, who claimed to have written 80% of the song and had not been compensated for his contribution.

Kuami Eugene was unhappy that Mr. Drew has failed to fulfill his financial obligation after writing about eighty percent of Mr. Drew’s song, ‘Case.’

“I wrote the entire hook, and some part of the second verse. I wrote like 80 percent of that song. In fact, before he came to record the song that hook and everything was already done, he listened to it and sang it,” Kuami Eugene told vlogger Naana Donkor Arthur in a TikTok Live conversation.

He continued; “It’s just a blessing that you write songs for people to sing even though I get paid for it. Drew didn’t do that [didn’t pay me] but we will talk about it later,” he said.

This sparked a legal debate within the industry, raising questions about copyright infringement and fair compensation for artists.

However, it is worth noting that this dispute has now been resolved. Kuami Eugene has come forward to address the situation and provide clarity on the matter. While details of the resolution have not been disclosed publicly, it is reassuring to see that both parties have reached an agreement.

Kuami Eugene said in an interview with TV3’s Adwo Noella on 3xtra: “After Mr. Drew pushed me to publicly say he should respect himself and give me what is due, he actually came back and told me he will sign.”

“Am glad to say we’re cool now, he brought me back my fifty percent”, Kumai Eugene concluded.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of respecting intellectual property rights in the music industry. It highlights the need for clear communication and proper documentation when collaborating on creative projects. As artists continue to navigate these challenges, it is crucial for them to be aware of their rights and seek legal protection when necessary.

The music industry thrives on collaboration and creativity, but it is essential that all parties involved are treated fairly and compensated appropriately for their contributions.
