Dancehall artiste Skillibeng brought some Jamaican flavour to the 2024 BET Awards stage. Tyla had everyone jumping from their seats during her performance of “Jump” with Gunna and Skillibeng at the 2024 BET Awards Sunday night (June 30).
Jump is taken from Tyla’s self-titled debut album. The song has been doing well at rhythmic radio in the United States. It has also made its way on multiple Billboard charts.
Four women cleverly painted as different parts of a tiger laid across the floor of a cage, swishing its “tail” (one woman’s painted arm) before Skillibeng kicked off the performance with his memorable “Original gyal, you are no replica (No)” intro. Tyla descended upon the stage in a rope swing and boldly entered the cage before singing her viral lyric “They never had a pretty girl from Joburg. See me now, and that’s what they prefurrr.”
Gunna delivered his verse next to an elephant statue before Skilli re-entered the stage while being escorted by men on stilts that Tyla danced underneath.

On last week’s charts, Jump slipped from #28 to #29 on Billboard’s Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, while improving from #22 to #19 on Rhythmic Top 40 Airplay. On Hot R&B Songs, Jump moves up from #8 to #7, while on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, it inches up from #34 to #33. On the US Afrobeats Songs chart, Jump made its way to its original peak at #3.
After canceling her first headlining world tour and Coachella performance earlier this year due to an injury, Tyla has picked up a few performance gigs, including Spotify Beach at Cannes Lions and Afro Nation Portugal earlier this month.
Tyla, who won two awards at the BET Awards, Best International Act (Africa) and Best New Artiste, is managed by Jamaican Colin Gayle, who hails from Manchester.
