New Shows And Films On Netflix, Disney, HBO And Apple TV In September

A full list of what to watch on Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, HBO Max, Disney+, Paramount+, Apple TV+, and Peacock in September 2024.

September is officially here, which means cooler weather, the return of football, and the season debuts of all of your favorite TV shows. The lion’s share of this month’s premieres are standard network fare, but there are still a number of streaming exclusive movies and TV shows coming to Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, and Amazon Prime Video in September.

Netflix and Hulu top the buzz list with two big shows premiering this month with ties to Massachusetts. Netflix’s “The Perfect Couple” (Sept. 5) is a high society murder mystery set on Nantucket (but filmed on Cape Cod) starring Nicole Kidman, while Hulu’s “American Sports Story” (Sept. 18) is Ryan Murphy’s dramatization of the rise and fall of former Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez.

You’ll also be able to see a number of movies released in theaters over the past year making their free streaming debuts. Max has the best of the bunch in September, with Hayao Miyazaki’s “The Boy and the Heron” (Sept. 6), Alex Garland’s “Civil War” (Sept. 13), and Jane Schoenbrun’s “I Saw the TV Glow” (Sept. 20) all worth a watch.

The Perfect Couple – September 5 (Netflix)

Starring Nicole Kidman, this drama series is an adaptation of Elin Hilderbrand’s 2018 novel of the same name and follows one of the most influential families on Nantucket, a paradise island in Massachusetts, as they prepare to celebrate a long-awaited wedding. However, an unexpected death interrupts the party and makes everyone suspicious.

One of the most anticipated series of 2024 is the spin-off of the film ‘Batman’ (2022), centered on the villain Oswald Cobblepot, also known as Penguin. The plot follows his rise in the Gotham underworld, showing how he becomes a powerful crime tycoon.

 Monster – September 19 (Netflix)

Starring Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny as the parents, this miniseries based on true events is set in the late 1980s when a horrific murder took place in a family mansion in Beverly Hills.

The new Marvel Universe spin-off (from ‘WandaVision’) follows Agatha Harkness on her quest to regain her magical powers. She teams up with unexpected allies to face new mystical threats and uncover secrets in the magical realm.

Uglies – September 13 (Netflix)

This new action film starring Joey King presents a dystopian future where society imposes strict beauty standards. The main character is a young teenager who finds herself about to undergo mandatory plastic surgery. However, before the procedure, she embarks on an intense journey to search for her friend who mysteriously disappeared.

Slow Horses (Season 4) – September 4 (Apple TV+)

The fourth season of this espionage series adapted from Mick Herron’s books arrives on streaming, combining dramatic thriller with dark humor. The plot follows a dysfunctional group of British MI5 agents, demoted to the Slough House department due to mistakes in past missions. In this season, based on the fourth book in the saga, a bomb explosion reveals personal secrets that threaten to destabilize Slough House.

Emily in Paris – September 12 (Netflix)

Emily returns for the season 4 finale, a story that has been split into 2 parts. She deals, as usual, with her dilemma of two men. Who will Emily finally stay with, Gabriel (who is now expecting a son with Camille) or Alfie?

Twilight of the Gods – September 19 (Netflix)

This adult animated series is based on Norse mythology and revolves around the revenge mission of Leif and the warrior Sigrid against Thor.

His Three Daughters – September 20 (Netflix)

Directed by Azazel Jacobs, this drama tells the story of three adult sisters who put their lives on hold and gather in a small New York apartment to care for their ailing father and accompany him in his final days. Starring Natasha Lyonne, Elizabeth Olsen, and Carrie Coon.

The Circle: USA (Season 7) – September 11 (Netflix)

In this famous reality show, participants compete individually for a prize of $100,000. Their interactions take place exclusively online through profiles on a special social network. But are they all genuine or is someone pretending to be someone else?

Nobody Wants This – September 26 (Netflix)

Starring Kristen Bell and Adam Brody, this comedy series tells the love story between an agnostic podcast host and an unconventional rabbi who has just gotten out of a relationship. The two meet unexpectedly at a party, beginning an unusual and fun relationship.
