Billboard just put out its list of the Greatest Pop Stars of the 21st Century, and Taylor Swift is ranked No. 2. A controversial clip in a celebratory film, on the other hand, caused a lot of blowback.
A part of Kanye West’s “Famous” music video was shown in the video. It showed a naked wax figure of Swift and a line that made fun of her.
The artists’ troubled past, which goes back to 2009, when West reportedly cut off Swift’s acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards, made this selection even more shocking.
Fans of Taylor Swift were obviously angry that the clip was included. Because the video got a lot of negative feedback, Billboard took it down and put it back up without the insulting part. In a blog post, Billboard said,
“We are deeply sorry to Taylor Swift and all of our readers and viewers that we included a clip that falsely depicted her in a video celebrating Swift’s achievements.” We’ve taken the clip out of our movie and are truly sorry for the trouble this caused.
We are deeply sorry to Taylor Swift and all of our readers and viewers that in a video celebrating Swift’s achievements, we included a clip that falsely depicted her. We have removed the clip from our video and sincerely regret the harm we caused with this error.
