Ghanaian reggae-dancehall and highlife crooner Epixode has made a passionate appeal for the erection of a statue to pay tribute to the late Mary Naa Amanua Dodoo, affectionately known as Naa Amanua. As a trailblazing icon in Ga folk music and the former lead female vocalist of the legendary group Wulomei, Naa Amanua left an indelible impact on Ghana’s rich musical heritage.
Speaking to JoyNews, Epixode, deeply moved by her profound influence on his own artistic journey and the careers of countless other musicians, believes that immortalizing Naa Amanua through a statue would serve as a fitting testament to her immeasurable contributions.
During his captivating performance at the recent Stonebwoy-curated African-Caribbean event, Bhim Festival, Epixode’s heartfelt homage to Naa Amanua struck a chord with the audience, underscoring the significance of her role in preserving and elevating Ga culture through the power of music.
By advocating for a tangible monument in her memory, Epixode aims to ensure that future generations can appreciate and draw inspiration from Naa Amanua’s enduring legacy, solidifying her place as a true cultural luminary whose impact will resonate for years to come.
The Bhim Festival event was particularly special for Epixode as it marked his first-ever performance alongside his biological brother, a guitarist who travelled to Ghana specifically for the festival. “It was a magical moment,” Epixode shared.
“We embraced after the performance, and it’s my hope that we can collaborate more in the future.”
