Selena Gomez appeared emotional as she won a Screen Actors Guild award (SAG) along with the cast of Only Murders In The Building.
The 32-year-old saw her Disney+ show with comedians Steve Martin and Martin Short win an “Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series” at the 31st ceremony on Sunday in Los Angeles. The trio play true crime obsessives who start a podcast about murders that take place in their swanky New York apartment building.
After hearing that Only Murders In The Building won, Gomez stood up and looked stunned as walked towards the stage, seeming to mouth the words: “Oh my god.”
Standing on stage with co-stars Michael Cyril Creighton, Richard Kind, and Molly Shannon, Gomez said: “Wait, we never win; this is so weird.”
“I’m genuinely so grateful (to) everybody, the writers, everyone deserves this, and I take it home for all of us, and I’m bringing this back to New York for season five, thank you so much.”
Canada-born Short, 74, also won outstanding performance by a male actor in a comedy, for playing theatre producer Oliver Putnam in the hit comedy series.
After the ceremony, Martin thanked SAG for the comedy ensemble award and praised Short, writing: “I’m the buddy of a winner.”
The actor, who portrays Charles-Haden Savage in the comedy series, shared his message of support to Instagram alongside a video of the cast at the ceremony saying “we still don’t believe it”.
Only Murders In The Building, which has run for four seasons and featured guest stars including Sting, Meryl Streep and Tina Fey, has been nominated for 16 Golden Globes – but not walked away with a prize.
