Doechii just dropped her highly anticipated single “Anxiety” on March 4 via Top Dawg Entertainment and Capitol Records.
She announced “Anxiety” approximately half an hour ahead of its arrival on X with the single’s cover art, which features a mirrored black-and-white image of the TDE rapper being connected by her braids.
The song has been making waves on TikTok for weeks, but what’s interesting is that Doechii first performed the original version on her YouTube channel five years ago.
“Anxiety” samples Gotye’s hit song “Somebody That I Used to Know” featuring Kimbra, which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2011. The song’s release comes after a viral moment on TikTok, where users started creating trends with the song.
“Swamp I heard y’all loud n clear !” as she announced the release an hour before dropping the song on DSPs. “Anxiety/ Keep on trying me/ I feel it quietly/ Tryna silence me, yeah/ My anxiety/ Can’t shake it off of me/ Somebody’s watching me/ And my anxiety,” the GRAMMY winner sings on the track (similar vocal also appears on this feature on the Sleepy Hallow track).
Doechii’s music style is known for being bold and eclectic, blending elements of hip-hop, R&B, and electronic music. With “Anxiety,” she showcases her unique sound and emotional depth, making this single a must-listen.
Doechii has been on a roll this year. She won her first Grammy last month for best rap album, becoming the third woman to take home the trophy following Cardi B and Lauryn Hill. And “Denial is a River” from her critically acclaimed 2024 mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal became her highest-charting entry on the Hot 100, peaking at No. 21.
