Ghanaian music sensation Gyakie has finally revealed the intriguing inspiration behind the title of her highly anticipated debut album, “After Midnight.”

In a candid and heartfelt exchange with a fan on Snapchat, the soulful songstress opened up about how the album’s evocative name came to be. Gyakie shared that the vast majority of the songs that made it onto the album were actually recorded and crafted during the wee hours after midnight, when the world is still and inspiration seems to flow most freely for her.

“almost all the songs on the album got recorded after midnight & within those same hours; i get the best inspiration to write.”

She painted a vivid picture of those late-night studio sessions, describing the tranquil peace, the gentle sounds of birds chirping outside, and the almost magical serenity that envelops her, unlocking her most potent creativity.

“the peace & quiet, the sounds from the birds, the serenity—everything from those hours helps my creativity a lot,” she wrote.

Gyakie also vulnerably disclosed that many tears have been shed during those after-midnight moments, as she allows herself to fully feel and release the emotions and struggles of the day once she’s back home after a long day of work. Connecting this to her upbringing, Gyakie recalled how her mother would consistently pray over her and her siblings every night after midnight while they slept, a cherished routine that continues to this day whenever the family is together.

“i’ve done a lot of crying after midnight too. When i’m in my down moments, i schedule the tears for when i get home from work, then i let it all out, and also, growing up, my mother would always pray for us after midnight when we are deeply asleep. it was a consistent routine & she still does it whenever we’re together,” she added.

Summing it up poetically, Gyakie expressed her belief that the album just hits different when listened to at 12:01am, in the first breaths of the new dawn. Her revelations provide a fascinating and intimate glimpse into the nocturnal inspirations and influences that birthed what promises to be a raw, real, and resonant debut album from one of Ghana’s most gifted young voices.

“there’s a lot i can say, but to sum it up, this album hits different when u listen at 12:01am/the early hours of dawn,” she concluded.
