Watch Trailer: Lilly Singh’s First Featured & Co-written Film “Doin’ It”

The official trailer for the Sex Education comedy thriller ‘Doin’ It‘—the first feature from YouTuber, television host, comedian and author Lilly Singh and her social impact and production company, Unicorn Island is out now. The film, which premiered at last year’s SXSW Film Festival with Lily ‘passing out sex toys like party favors,’ yeah, is being distributed by recently launched U.S. company Aura Entertainment.

The film, which Lilly wrote and co-produced, is also her first leading role and follows a 30-year-old software engineer, Maya (Singh), from a conservative Indian family who doubles down as a substitute high school teacher assigned to teach sex ed…only she’s never had sex herself. What follows is complete chaos and pure comedy!

In a statement to Deadline on the acquisition, Singh said, “I’ve always wanted to tell stories that break boundaries and bring joy. Doin’ It does both. We laughed our asses off making it, and I can’t wait for audiences to see a comedy that puts brown girls, awkward moments, and cultural taboos front and center.”

Directed by Sara Zandieh (A Simple Wedding) from her script written with Singh and Neel Patel, Singh’s Unicorn Island Productions developed the project with Likely Story, also bringing in Camelback Productions, which financed and co-produced. Producers included Anthony Bregman (In the Heights), Erica Matlin (The Half of It), Singh, Polly Auritt (The Kingdom), and Anita Verma-Lallian, under Likely Story, Unicorn Island Productions, and Camelback Productions.

The cast includes Sonia Dillon-Tully, Sabrina Jalees, Ana Gasteyer, Stephanie Beatriz, Mary Holland, Utkarsh Ambudkar, and Trevor Salter.

Doin’ It‘ officially opens in theaters across the U.S. September 19.
