Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are officially engaged, marking the next chapter in one of pop culture’s most closely followed relationships.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end proposed to the Grammy-winning superstar in a garden setting transformed into a romantic backdrop. Swift said yes, and the couple shared the news Tuesday on Instagram with a series of photos from the proposal. Among the images: a close-up of Swift’s diamond ring set in yellow gold.
The announcement’s caption read, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
The engagement comes after nearly two years of public appearances that kept fans and media outlets buzzing. Swift and Kelce first sparked dating rumors in 2023, when the football player attended her Eras Tour performance in Kansas City, Missouri. Their relationship quickly blossomed, with Kelce making sideline appearances at Swift’s concerts and Swift seen frequently at Chiefs games, including their 2024 Super Bowl victory.
The couple’s relationship has been a cultural crossover, uniting sports fans and music lovers alike. Their romance even fueled increased NFL viewership as Swift’s fanbase tuned in to Chiefs games.
Kelce and his brother later discussed the show on their podcast, “New Heights,” on which Kelce said he had been hoping to speak to Swift backstage. But unfortunately for Kelce, it was a no-go.
“If you’re up on Taylor Swift concerts, there are friendship bracelets,” Kelce said. “And I received a bunch of them being there, but I wanted to give Taylor Swift one with my number on it.”
“Your number as in 87, or your phone number?” his brother asked.
“You know which one,” Kelce joked back.
His podcast Hail Mary paid off, however, as Swift apparently caught the remarks.
She told Time magazine in 2023 that she thought the move was “metal as hell,” and the pair began hanging out soon after. Swift made an appearance in September 2023 at the Chiefs’ home game against the Chicago Bears. Kelce has said the couple had been seeing each other for about a month at that point, but it was the first time the public saw them together.
“Today is a fairytale,” the Chiefs wrote Tuesday on X. “Congrats to Travis and Taylor—we’re excited to have you as a permanent member of the Chiefs Kingdom family!”
Now, the superstar duo is preparing for their biggest headline yet: a wedding. No date has been announced, but the couple’s engagement instantly dominated social media trends Tuesday, with hashtags like #Traylor and #LoveStory trending worldwide.
