The “Dirty Blonde” star gets candid with Jennifer Hudson about the “tough” reality of being a woman in the spotlight and the heartbreaking inspiration behind her new anthem, “ILYBTM.”
Pop powerhouse Bebe Rexha isn’t holding back anymore. In an emotional sit-down on The Jennifer Hudson Show, the “I’m Good” singer opened up about the toxic standards of beauty that triggered her latest musical era.
While discussing her new track “ILYBTM” (I Like You Better Than You), Bebe admitted that even global superstars aren’t immune to the “scroll-hole” of insecurity.
“Being a woman is tough sometimes,” Bebe told a captivated Hudson. “It’s us seeing gorgeous models and fit women all the time, and everybody’s getting so skinny. I was going through a tough time… I see a girl in the video and she’s a model, and I just kind of lose it.”
In a moment that has since gone viral, Bebe described the “therapy” of writing the song, confessing that she often looked at other women and wondered, “What’s in your brain? It’s so beautiful.”
The singer, who has long been a champion for body positivity, admitted that the pressure of the music business reached a breaking point, leading her to create “ILYBTM” (I Like You Better Than You) as a way to process her own feelings of “wishing I could be them.”
I see a girl in the video and she’s a model, and I just kind of lose it. But for me, it was more so my therapy of looking at these other women and wishing I could be them. Like, ‘What’s in your brain? It’s so beautiful.’
But it’s not just for the ladies. Bebe is making it clear that her music is a safe space for everyone. “I hope other women, girls, even men, boys, could relate to it,” she added. “We all have those moments of insecurity.”
Fans have already flooded social media with the hashtag #ILYBTM, praising the star for her “brutal honesty” and “realness” in an industry often obsessed with filters and perfection.
