As the Academy Awards are approaching, with the final revelation on the night of March 10, 2024, let’s have a look at the nominees for best international feature film. The shortlist of nominated films includes movies from Italy, UK, Spain, Japan, and Germany.
The movie is called ‘The Teachers’ Lounge’ (‘Das Lehrerzimmer’) and it was directed by the German-Turkish director Ilker Çatak.

A strong contender is the Italian ‘Io Capitano’ (‘Me Captain’) directed by Matteo Garrone. It tells the story of two Senegalese boys who try to reach Europe for a better life.

In a collaboration with US and Polish filmmakers, Jonathan Glazer directed ‘The Zone of Interest’ about a national socialist who wants to build his dream house together with his wife next to the location of the Auschwitz concentration camp.

It’s a retelling of a horrible true story: the crash and struggle for survival of a plane full of Uruguayan rugby players in the Andean snow-topped mountains. ‘Society of the Snow’ (‘La Sociedad de la Nieve’) was directed by Juan Antonio Bayona and you can see it on Netflix.

‘Perfect Days’ tells a number of short stories. It’s a collaboration between Japanese and German filmmakers, and Wim Wenders is the director and producer of the project.
