Stonebwoy reacts to Grammy Article on Ghana Music History: “It’s an error not to capture Stonebwoy in anything Ghana music today”

Stonebwoy, the acclaimed Ghanaian reggae-dancehall artist and pioneering figure in the Afro-dancehall genre, has voiced his concerns over the recent Grammy article that highlighted “Ten Essential Artists In Ghanaian Hiplife.”

As a leading voice in the Ghanaian music scene, Stonebwoy was notably absent from the list, prompting him to speak out and call for the article to be corrected. His reaction underscores the significance of accurately representing the diverse and vibrant musical landscape of Ghana, which has produced a wealth of talented artists across various genres.

The article with headline, 10 Artists Essential To Ghanaian Hiplife: Reggie Rockstone, Sarkodie, Mzbel & More captured some ace Ghanaian musicians such as Reggie Rockstone, Lord Kenya, Obrafour, VIP, Tinny, Mzbel, Sarkodie, Asakaa Boys, Black Sherif and King Paluta.

Venting his spleen on X, he wrote: “Who ever wrote this article is interestingly missing THE NAME @stonebwoy.” He has therefore asked the @RecordingAcad to “do due diligence before you publish half dozed articles aiming to capture the true image of the State of the Ghanaian Sound.”

His omission from the Grammy’s “essential” list is seen by many as an oversight that fails to capture the full breadth and depth of the country’s musical heritage. Stonebwoy’s call for the article to be revised and updated reflects his desire to ensure that the contributions of all influential Ghanaian artists, including himself, are duly recognized and celebrated on the global stage, thereby doing justice to the rich tapestry of Ghana’s vibrant and ever-evolving music scene.
