Ghanaian award-winning singer-songwriter King Promise recently visited Stamford Bridge — the home stadium of Chelsea FC — while filming bits and contents for his new track “Bad Habits” featuring Davido, set to drop on 21 November.

For King Promise, choosing the Blues’ iconic stadium was more than a backdrop — it was a symbolic homecoming.

Growing up in Accra, King Promise says his love for Chelsea began with Ghana’s own legend, Michael Essien — who starred for Chelsea and became a beacon for young Ghanaians dreaming big.

“Michael Essien means a lot because to make it out of nothing to be on the world stage is something that gives the youth hope.”

He also looks up to Marcel Desailly, whose Ghanaian roots and storied Chelsea career make him a mentor-figure:

“On a personal note, as a human being, he’s amazing… For a young guy like me, coming up and trying to represent my people to the world, it’s always good to have people who have also achieved high heights to ease you on the right path.” In short: for King Promise, it’s not just about being a fan — it’s about seeing a path from Accra to the global stage, inspired by those who came before.

He explains that filming the visuals at Chelsea’s home made sense because: “The club means “more than just football” in Ghana; it’s a cultural force. The song’s message, “I can’t stop winning… that’s my bad habit”, aligns with Chelsea’s winning legacy. Being at the stadium gave him “goosebumps” and reinforced how deeply the club has impacted his life and mindset.”

In Accra and across Ghana, the affection for Chelsea is strong. King Promise notes: “If you came to Accra you would see how much Chelsea has an impact and how much we love the club, even without ever having stepped foot on English soil…”

As the track “Bad Habits” drops on 21 November with Davido, fans will not only get a musical collaboration but also a visual testament of ambition, fandom and international crossover. King Promise is effectively telling his story: from the neighborhoods of Accra, inspired by Essien and Desailly, to the iconic pitch of Stamford Bridge.
