Lady Gaga is known for going to great lengths to devote to her characters when working on a film, and this appears to be the case with Joker: Folie a Deux.
The 37-year-old “Applause” pop star is set to portray Harley Quinn alongside Joaquin Phoenix‘s Joker in the sequel to his 2019 blockbuster.
In a recent interview, cinematographer Larry Sher said that Mother Monster didn’t want to be known on set as Lady Gaga or Stefani Germanotta. He revealed her chosen name and how changing her name affected their relationship.
While on The Trenches TV, Larry said that he thought Gaga hated him when they first started working together.
“I feel like I never really even met her, even during the makeup hair test,” he said. “And then I remember for like a week being like, ‘God I feel like we were disconnecting, not even connecting. We’re like on opposites.’ And I would say to my crew like, ‘Jesus I can’t crack it. I feel like she either hates me or we hate each other or there’s something weird going on here.’”
Larry mentioned that he had been calling her Stefani until he received some advice:
“Then the AD at one point said, ‘Oh you know Stef would like if you just called her Lee on set.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, 100%.’ And then I literally said like the next thing I said was something Lee, and it was like everything changes.”
“From that point on it was like our whole connection changed,” he added.
Lee’s origins are unknown. Could it be Harley’s nickname? We’ll have to wait and see if more information becomes available to confirm!
If you forgot, Gaga also was very committed to her role in House of Gucci. She revealed that she spoke in her Italian accent for nine months straight.
