Matthew Vaughn quit directing ‘X-MEN: THE LAST STAND’ after execs wrote a scene to trick Halle Berry into signing on.

Due to Bryan Singer choosing to direct Superman Returns, and FOX wanting to fast track X3 – it lead the studio to replacing him with a new director for the franchise.

Matthew Vaughn was set to helm X-Men: The Last Stand but ultimately left the project with how limited time they had to make the film but now he is being honest with what ended up being his last stand.

Halle Berry who played Storm for X1/X2 was unhappy with how the character was treated in the franchise and threatened to walk if Storm did not have a bigger role in the third film. Vaughn reveals that the studio created FAKE script pages that gave Storm more to do in hopes to trick Halle into signing on for the film.

Vaughn questioned this and was told that the script would be thrown out once she signed on the dotted line. After this, he decided to drop out of the film leading Fox to hire Brett Ratner to ruin the last OG X-Men film.

“It said, ‘Africa. Storm. Kids dying of no water. She creates a thunderstorm and saves all these children…’ I went, ‘What is this?’ [They said,] ‘Oh, it’s Halle Berry’s script. I went, ‘OK, because she hasn’t signed up yet.’ [The execs said] ‘but this is what she wants it to be, and once she signs up, we’ll throw it in the bin.”
