Lizzo has secured a partial legal win in the ongoing lawsuit filed against her by three former dancers, after a judge dismissed allegations that she engaged in fat-shaming. The ruling marks a significant development in the high-profile 2023 case, though several claims remain active.

The lawsuit was brought by former dancers Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez, who alleged that the Grammy-winning artist fostered a hostile work environment during their time on tour. Among their accusations were claims that Lizzo shamed them over weight gain and ultimately terminated them for that reason. The court, however, found insufficient evidence to support the fat-shaming allegations and dismissed that portion of the case.

Following the ruling, Lizzo addressed the decision in a video statement, describing it as a validation of her position. She asserted that there was “no evidence” to suggest the dancers were fired due to weight-related issues, maintaining instead that they were terminated for secretly recording her without consent. Lizzo has consistently denied the allegations, characterizing them as unfounded and damaging to her reputation.

Despite the dismissal of the fat-shaming claims, the lawsuit will proceed on other grounds. The remaining allegations include claims of sexual harassment and coercion, with the former dancers asserting they were pressured into attending sex shows and interacting with nude performers while on tour. Lizzo has adamantly denied these accusations as well.

“I am not settling,” Lizzo said in her statement. “I will be fighting every single claim until the truth is out.”

Lizzo’s legal team has sought to block the remaining claims, arguing that the outings cited in the lawsuit were part of the artist’s creative process and should be protected under the First Amendment. That argument was strongly rejected by the plaintiffs’ attorney, who contends the experiences described by the dancers went beyond professional expectations and created an uncomfortable work environment.

According to Lizzo’s attorney, the remaining claims are meritless, and the defense is prepared to present testimony from 18 witnesses who are expected to refute the dancers’ allegations.

As the case moves forward, the dismissal of the fat-shaming claims represents a notable moment for Lizzo, but the legal battle is far from over. The outcome of the remaining allegations could have lasting implications for both the artist and broader conversations around power, accountability, and workplace conduct in the entertainment industry.
