One Battle After Another and Sinners Lead 2026 BAFTA Nominations

Paul Thomas Anderson’s action-thriller and Ryan Coogler’s historical horror led with 14 and 13 nominations, respectively
2026 BAFTA Nominations

Warner Bros. dominated this year’s BAFTA Film Award nominations, with Paul Thomas Anderson’s political satire One Battle After Another and Ryan Coogler’s Sinners emerging as clear frontrunners.

Anderson’s film scored 14 nods, nearing the all-time record held by Gandhi, while Coogler’s historical horror earned 13, the most ever for a Black director in BAFTA history. Both will compete for Best Film alongside Hamnet, Marty Supreme, and Sentimental Value, which brought 74-year-old Stellan Skarsgård his first-ever BAFTA nomination.

Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet secured 11 nominations, making it the most-recognized film from a female director in the academy’s history, though Zhao is the only woman in the Best Director race.

Timothée Chalamet picked up a second consecutive Leading Actor nod for Marty Supreme, and Josh Safdie earned his first directing nomination. Still, there were surprises: despite eight nominations, Frankenstein missed out on the top categories, and the musical epic Wicked: For Good managed just two technical mentions.

The Manipuri-language film Boong, produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment, was nominated in the Best Children’s and Family Film category this year. ‘Boong’ is a coming-of-age story about a young boy from Manipur who believes the greatest gift for his mother would be bringing his father home.

Notably snubbed this year by the BAFTAs were Wicked: For Good‘s Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, both of whom also missed out on Oscar nominations for the sequel to 2025’s WickedWeapons star Amy Madigan, who recently won a Critics’ Choice Award, was also omitted from the Supporting Actress race.

This year’s BAFTAs will be held on Sunday, Feb. 22 at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall in London, and will be hosted by Alan Cumming. See the full list of nominees below:
