Nigerian singer and songwriter Oxlade has released the official music video for “Ololufe,” his collaboration with Ghanaian hip-hop icon Sarkodie, and the twelfth track off his “Oxlade From Africa” album.
Directed by Ella Raaye, the visuals reflect the song’s emotions, capturing moments of love, attraction, and connection.
Oxlade’s vocals carry a sense of longing; “First thing first, this your matter, make me do the one thing, Whine to the soca, make I give you one touch, I personally want you to be my thing (Baby, nobody, oh), Interesting quite.”
According to Oxlade, Ghanaian rapper “Sarkodie’s verse is one of the hardest verses to come out this year. Sarkodie’s rapid-fire flows and witty wordplay create a captivating blend of Nigerian and Ghanaian musical styles. Effortlessly switching between English and his native Twi as he pays tribute to the beauty and allure of African women.
“Omaricha biko, shh, wherever we go. Now me and you, kissing, touching, look out the window. Come and sleep on my pillow.”
“Ololufe,” which translates to “my love” in Yoruba, showcases Oxlade’s knack for crafting romantic, heartfelt lyrics as he serenades his love interest over a lush, afrobeat-infused instrumental.
“This song was partly inspired by a Fuji song from K1 De Ultimate. It was also inspired by “Ololufe” by Wande Coal, one of the greatest African R&B songs to date. Wande is one of my idols. My ‘Ololufe’ has reggae, dancehall and afrobeat vibes,” Oxlade told Wonderland Magazine.
