The “Jaguar” era may be coming to a close, but Victoria Monét is already looking toward a new horizon. After dominating 2024 with the disco-funk and brassy soul of “Jaguar II,” the Grammy winner has revealed that her next project will dive deep into the world of ’90s R&B.

During a recent conversation with Angel Reese on the athlete’s podcast, Monét explained that while her previous work was a love letter to the 1970s, she is currently crafting a sound that feels much more like the “golden era” of R&B.

“This album that I’m working on right now is so, so R&B,” Monét shared. “Jaguar II was R&B, but it was set in the era of the ’70s. This feels more like ’90s R&B.”

Beyond just a shift in decade, Victoria is aiming for a massive impact. She recently told Ciara on Level Up Radio that she views Jaguar II as her Off the Wall moment—meaning she’s now aiming to create her own Thriller. To achieve this, she has revamped her recording process, focusing on high-level vocal production and live melody creation to capture that classic superstar energy.

Following the success of hits like “On My Mama” and “Alright,” fans are eager to see how Monét’s signature songwriting translates into the world of ’90s-inspired soul. If her past work is any indication, we’re in for another masterclass in R&B excellence.
